When I was a kid, I felt that I didn’t have the thing that made me unique. I felt like my friends were either terrific students or promising athletes. I had, on the other hand, had a hard time learning. I loved to read and learn, but it was challenging! Fast forward some all-nighters and SATs I ended up at Baylor University as a Psychology major.
Like every other college student, I took a class I loved and changed my major! I decided I wanted to be a photographer after just one darkroom class!
I figured out that the best way for me to learned was visual! Everything made so much more sense!
After I graduated, I thought I would become a fine art photographer in galleries and telling other’s stories. But destiny had a different plan when an old friend asked to step in for their photographer. He had flacked the day before the big day!!
I knew NOTHING about wedding photography. I approached the day like I would one of my documentary projects.
I now know that so much more goes into being an amazing photographer. It’s way more than just pretty photos. As photographers, we guide our families for genuine expressions. We get to really know a family and who they are. We laugh together; we cry together.
Our job is to tell family stories.
